Ahh...welcome to the capitol of Areyn.  This is the true beauty of Tyria's lands. So peaceful it seems...despite the troubles just over the horizons. This is one of the few places left that refuses to be tainted by the darkness that spreads over the land. It may look small and plain from this point of view, but with closer look it is very large and very beautiful. The Divine Light that shines so brilliantly from above is a symbol that I have given these people...a symbol that even in my powerless state, I still keep a watchful eye on all.

I've picked this spot to tell you the History of this land. I feel it to be most suiting for the tale I am to tell you now....

I. The Creation
Long ago whilst a world named Earth was beginning to age, a world called Tyria began to live. Its creation began in the image of Earth, but was destined to be a much different place. When faith in the extraordinary began to fade some time ago...all creatures, all things, and all powers that only existed by beliefs began to vanish.
Therefore, in an attempt to keep alive what you may think no longer exists, Tyria was created. Of course, some parts of what you call normal still exist here...like a second Earth, except on Tyria there is more. Everything that is only a myth to one who inhabits Earth, is precisely what is also meant to inhabit Tyria. Yes...perhaps now you are beginning to understand. This world in itself, was and is still being created by yours and everyone else's fantasies.
There is however still vague similarity between the two worlds of Earth and Tyria. The principle of time and how it passes is exactly the same. Size is very similar...as is the climate. The many different kinds of beings here all have dreams, hopes...and emotions. Despite the fact that the presence of so-called "mythical" animals is notable, one would also find that many of Earth's creatures are also found here.
Yet...realize that things are very different here as well. Imagine a world where beings that you've thought only existed in a book, are more often than not seen and cause not the slightest notion. Imagine a world where magic and religion prevail over science. Imagine a world still living and destined to forever in the setting of what some know as Earth's "middle ages." What you are imagining is Tyria.

II. Beginnings
We've established quite a bit about Tyria's creation, but even still there is so much more to know. While Earth has been advancing with science that disproves more beliefs...Tyria has been building its history. Its lands have seen much...life, death, love, war, ...Light, ...and it now sees Darkness.
When Tyria was created almost immediately it began to see the appearances of many various things. Beings of the same face began to band together in tribes, a few major races established kingdoms for themselves, religions were born, magical things began to emit great power, towns and cities were constructed, and Tyria became a world.
But with every world has faults. There was much tribal warfare and racial tension. The innocent were always being hurt and wronged, and there was no one to stop it. It was everyone for themselves most of the time. It would seem Tyria would never turn out to be the beautiful land it was meant to be.
Seventy-six years passed Tyria's creation, and  a human who went by the name of Junikal Lanrisa had a wonderful idea. He wanted to unite the races, and create one large republic that would rule the entire world fairly, and put a stop to all injustice. Some liked this...others did not. But Junikal Lanrisa was a very fair man. He established his kingdom, all those who agreed with his reasoning were invited to join him, and all who did not were simply left alone. The kingdom grew large in size and rich in both finance and righteousness.
This was truly great, but it seems that nothing great in Tyria lasts forever. Sadly when Lanrisa died, there was controversy over who was the rightful heir to the great throne. Junikal Lanrissa had three sons, and despite the fact that usually the eldest receives the crown, it was regrettably decided that the kingdom be divided equally into three parts, with the each of the three brothers control one third. And so came about a temporary end to Lanrissa...and also the great and infamous "Kin War."

III. The Kin War

All went basically unchanged at first, but soon the youths started to become ever so more greedy. The principles of Junikal Lanrissa were forgotten, as the three brother gradually began to claim neighboring lands. Junikal had a great army under his command when he left Tyria...and it was that same army that his children used to terrify others into surrendering much wanted territory.
There were three main parts of the Kingdom of Lanrisa. There was SouthWest Lanrisa which controlled mainly mountainous areas. This part was considered to be ruled by the nastiest and darkest of the three brothers. This kingdom was known for its slavery and its poverty.
Then there was South-East Lanrisa, a kingdom that controlled many forests. This kingdom had another unpleasant ruler, however it was not a poor kingdom. If any of the three brothers had superior brain power it was this one. However, no one ever thought he would be able to amount to anything since he was often busy quarreling with the the elves that controlled the very forests he was trying to claim.
The third kingdom was North Lanrissa. The man that controlled this kingdom was the only one out of the trio of brothers that was sincere about his people. However, he was greedy as well, and had no neighboring lands to claim other than ocean and that of his brothers. In the year 104, as if he had not been born of the same mother, he attacked both of the other two brothers.
This war..."The Kin War", began with small battles between the three kingdoms. But as the scent of war grew stronger, and hate and grudges were made, the three kingdoms became enthralled in an all out giant battle against each other. The sadness of it all was that not only did brothers on the throne fight...but brothers on the battlefield were forced to slaughter each other. Many songs are still sung of the horrible conflicts in which soldiers had to choose between loyalty to their family and loyalty to their kingdom. Generation to generation, both King and follower, the war  between the kin continued.
As time went on, the entire world of Tyria became involved. An endless age of mercenaries came about. Battle for money prevailed over the battle for glory. As more and more lives were pointlessly lost, it became obvious that this was a mistake Tyria would never forget.
Many foreign lands sought to put an end to the war somehow. One land in particular, a land which was very familiar with magic, became very interested in this....

IV. The Shadow Rift
The kingdom of Areyn, always proud and strong, always skilled in the arts of magic, and always strongly believing in the "True  Creator" of Areyn, was ruled by a woman known as Queen Kataline at the time near the end of the Kin War. With a little...guidance...from a supernatural being, she led her followers in the year 300 in a search for the answer to the problem,
"If physical force cannot put an end to this forsaken war, then our magic will, " she told her followers.  It was not long before they found....or perhaps were given...the knowledge to use magic in such a way.
In the final days of the year 300, large forces from all three sides of the former kingdom of Lanrisa in one central location...preparing for a perhaps the largest battle in the history of Tyria. Taking it upon herself to put an end to the killing, Queen Kataline magically brought herself to the center of the battlefield.
Only hesitating for a small moment, she gave her life up for one...last feat of magic. Drawing upon forbidden powers granted by the being that had forbidden them, she created a massive shred between two realms. The horrible ripping noise of the dimensional fabric that holds two realms apart was heard throughout all Tyria. With one final scream she was enveloped in a magnificent explosion of magic and powers. An incredible gale-force shockwave was felt for miles.
Completely awed and overwhelmed by the appearance of the beautiful queen and then the magic explosion, the forces from the three kingdoms were then faced with a new battle. For where the queen once stood...in the center of the clearing mist created by the vast magical explosion, there was a strange radiance of power. A nameless soldier began to ride a horse towards it, yet the horse would not go. Still determined, he dismounted and went over and into the mist. That was the last he was ever seen,
A horrible, soul shattering scream was heard and there was a second explosion of fire.  The mist burned away and a horrible thing stood where the mist had cleared. No one is quite sure exactly what it looked like, but it is certain that it was an infamous "Shadow Rift". Something that connects any realm with the Realm of Hell. It is said that it could only be described as a symbol of everything unholy.
The armies gathered around the Shadow Rift were unexpectedly overwhelmed by demons that immediately came out of that Evil portal. Normal men were no match for such powers of pure Darkness that the demons unleashed...and those demons were only the weakest and first to come.
The people of Areyn had no idea that this was possible, yet it was not even their fault. They had trusted their "Creator" and he was wrong. Thinking only that the Shadow Rift could have been used as a sign that the war must stop, the Queen had in actuality brought about the worst curse Tyria had ever seen.
A great cataclysm happened then. The surface of the world changed incredibly. Lands parted, seas rose, mountains were formed. It happened so fast...so many beings died...without ever knowing what had happened.
V. Aftermath
It took awhile, but soon the world began to realize how bad the damage was. Northern Lanrisa and parts of the entire southern parts of South-West and South-East Lanrisa had been completely covered in water. Lanrisa was nearly separated into two parts except for a small strip of land in which the Shadow Rift rests upon. Jagged mountains rose up around the Shadow Rift all nearly blocked all contact to a few towns and cities.
Since all three of the Lanrisan kings were present at the slaughter of  caused by the appearance of the Shadow Rift, what was left of the kingdoms went into complete turmoil. The son of the former king of the South-Western Kingdom of Lanrisa came forward, claiming that he was Lanrissa II, and the true heir to both of the remaining sides.
By half-way through the year 301, he was in control of both sides. Lanrisa was united once again, and they fought bravely against the Evil from the Shadow Rift...for awhile.
VI. Dander
Lanrisa was a fully united kingdom for nearly 300 hundred more years. However, in the year 598, King Lanrisa XII decided on his coronation day that humanity was a superior race, with quick action he declared that all non-humans were to be taken prisoner, and be forced into slavery.
There was one man who would not stand for this. He was well prepared to lay his life down in order to Lanrisa from carrying out his plans. There was a surprising amount of soldiers, both human and non-human alike, ready to stand by this man. This man was named Rylicubus Dander.
Even though it took time, Rlyicubus united the entire Eastern half of Lanrisa into rebelling against the West. Being the strategical genius that he was. he easily overcame the Lanrisan forces in the East and took the entire area almost completely by surprise. By the year 600, Dander was a fully established kingdom.
The Danderan kings have always been wise and good rulers. They seem to have a quote that fits every situation. They fight in the battlefields along with their men, yet not one of them has ever been slain in battle or assassinated.
Currently the kingdom of Dander is fighting against Darkness and Lanrisa with all its strength. One of Rlyicubus's first actions as the first king of Dander was to establish a Liberation Run, in which slaves under Lanrisa could escape to the kingdom of Dander to either become free or join the army.
VII. The Year 900

You may have already noticed a certain pattern here. Every 300 years since Tyria's creation a great phenomenon has happened. Now...in the year 900, another phenomenon will happen. Several chosen people from another realm will be brought to this world...and try to seal its fate. It is not certain who will triumph, and some may not work to finish the war between Light and Darkness at all.
This is Tyria's history so far...now we will see what it's destiny really is....

Now you know the entire story. You know who truly caused the appearance of the Shadow Rift. It is one mistake that will not be forgotten. Feel free to continue onward to...
